Summer Session students
Best. Summer. Ever.

The perfect balance between academic enrichment
and summertime fun for boys and girls ages 8-15!

How to apply

Welcome to Summer Session

This year marks our 70th summer of providing well-balanced educational and recreational experiences for boys and girls in grades three through nine.

The Cardigan Summer Session is not a traditional summer camp OR a traditional summer school. Our mission is to provide the perfect balance between authentic learning, personal development, and summertime fun. Our students attend five short class periods in the morning. Our classes are small, innovative, and tailored to the individual. Kids have the opportunity to explore diverse learning experiences such as mixed media art, dance, and wilderness adventures. Even our more traditional course offerings (journalism, SSAT prep, languages) are structured to be fun! Our students improve their academic skills, broaden their experiences, try new hobbies, and develop new friendships all while enjoying a wide variety of activities and a full community life on the scenic Cardigan Mountain School campus. During afternoons and evenings, we take full advantage of our beautiful lakeside campus with a variety of activities . . . stand-up paddle boarding, swimming, tennis, street hockey, overnight wilderness trips— virtually every activity under the sun! At night, we welcome performers to campus, engage in all-school “Green and White” competitions, enjoy campfire skits, and bond as a group during dormitory initiatives. By “lights out,” our students are ready for a good night’s rest after a very full day. Many students return to Cardigan for multiple summers. They are drawn back by the rewarding experience of setting goals, facing challenges, and achieving personal growth. More importantly, Summer Session is really fun! Lifelong friendships are formed as students bond over activities, shared living spaces, and classroom experiences. Our students return home with an expanded skill set, a broader experience of community and culture, and the joy of having been away at summer camp!

Don't take our word for it. Please view the short video below to hear more from one of our parents.

There’s a lot more to say about Cardigan’s Summer Session, but the only way to truly understand it is to experience it for yourself. We hope to see you on campus soon.

“We've never seen anything like this in our camp experiences or our school experiences, and we'll definitely keep coming back.”
