Fall 2020 Parent Meetings & FAQ
Cardigan hosted three virtual parent meetings during the month of July including such discussions as preparing your son for the upcoming year, the campus arrival & registration procedures, and our 2020-21 academic, residential and athletic program.

Program Overview: July 29 Parent Meeting Recording
Thank you to our families who were able to join us for our recent parent meeting, 2020-21 Program Overview, on July 29.
Dean of Faculty and Assistant Head of School Josh LeRoy P’23 and a panel of program directors and administrators led a discussion on how Cardigan is facing the challenge of balancing the health and safety of our community with our overall program goals for academics, athletics, student life, and residential life.

- What are you doing to mitigate risks in the classroom?
- Will there be social distancing in cafeteria?
- If day students can leave campus, why can't boarders?
- International students may not be able to arrive on campus on time. If they take online classes at home, they will face not only the difficulties of different time zones and have hard time concentrating but also SEVIS record problem. What should they do?
- How do we prepare for sports this fall and winter?
- How will fall sports be conducted?
- Will the boys have an opportunity to play spring sports like baseball and lacrosse this fall?

Campus Arrival: July 22 Parent Meeting Recording
Thank you to our families who were able to join us for our recent parent meeting, Campus Arrival and Registration on July 22. The video recording of the complete meeting is below. Campus Arrival & Registration FAQ
- My son will require an off-campus doctor/dentist/orthodontist this fall, will I be able to bring him to these appointments or would CMS staff be required to take him?
- Will my son be able to leave campus for a visit home, or should we expect he will not be home until the break in November?
- My understanding is that the plan is to get the kids safely on campus and then keep everyone "in a bubble." How does that work with off campus faculty and day students?
- Are you allowing parents on campus even though they have not been tested? How does all that work?
- Will there be open weekends and if so, what processes will be in place in light of the current Covid landscape?
- How will day students be handled regarding these various measures as compared to boarding students since there will be less control over what day students do and where they do it when away from campus?
- Will there be any family weekends scheduled?
- Will sanitizing of school areas and dorms, especially bathrooms, happen daily?
- Will the boys continue to have roommates?
- When is the earliest time for us to come to the school?
- Will there be a testing regimen for all students and faculty/staff to help detect asymptomatic cases, especially those who live off campus?
- Where will boys quarantine if they are positive with mild symptoms or asymptomatic?
- Do day students need to Quarantine for 14 days prior to arrival to Mascoma for testing? Or would it be less since they are quarantined from the 21st until the 28th (7 days) ?
- Our day student was originally told arrive on August 25. Now I see new instructions for day students asking them to report to Mascoma on August 21. Will he need to come back for registration with his originally assigned 8th grade Group 1 on August 25?
- When will my son find out who will he be rooming with because I know the boys were able to request a roommate and dorm?
- Will student leaders still play an important role? My son is concerned about that as he was very much looking forward to be a floor leader.
- What happens if the student and/or family member exhibits symptoms while undergoing screening at Mascoma Community Health Center (MCHC)?
- Who is allowed to accompany your son on registration and move-in day at Cardigan?

Preparing Your Son: FAQ
- We understand that after the kids have been tested and quarantined Cardigan will be a "secure" place. Therefore, why is there a need for social distancing and using masks while at Cardigan?
- The instructions indicate that students should quarantine 2 weeks before arriving at school. Does this mean that an international family needs to arrive in the United States 15 days before registration?
- I would like my son to take vitamins daily as supplements as I am a bit concerned about his eating habits. Are vitamins something that needs be distributed by the health center, or can he keep these in this room?
- I would like to know how you are going to control the seasonal flu, common cold, and COVID-19 due to similar symptoms. Will students be able to have flu test kits when they have symptoms to be checked?
- Do they have negative pressure rooms in hospitals in New Hampshire?
- Will students have enough masks and other hygiene supplies?
- How will the social distancing work? (During classes, in dorms, during athletics)?
