Six Skiers Qualify for State Championships

Cardigan’s Alpine Ski Team takes advantage of competing in two different venues, the team-oriented New England Preparatory School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) and the more individually-focused New Hampshire Alpine Racing Association (NHARA.) While NEPSAC is only open to independent school students, NHARA events are open to any competitor in the State of New Hampshire.
The Cougars finished a strong second as a team at the NEPSAC Lakes Region Giant Slalom Championships recently held at Proctor Academy’s Blackwater Ski Area. Then, the U12 (born in 2007-08) and U14 (born in 2005-06) members of the team had their last NHARA “qualifier” this past Sunday at the Dartmouth Skiway. The results of this race would factor into qualifications for the NHARA State Championships.
After the race, officials announced the great news that six Cardigan boys had qualified: U12 Justin Kim and U14s Anders Silitch, Jeffrey Kang, Sebastien Madan, Wilson Knapp, and Jason Lee.
“We are all so very proud of these boys and the entire team,” said Cardigan Director of Alpine Skiing Julia Ford. “They have all worked very hard to get here. This is a great step forward for our program.”
Ms. Ford gives the credit to the Cardigan coaching staff, Head Coach Travis Nevins and assistant coaches Doug Clark, Al Gray, and Bob Nevins for a great team effort in helping these boys to believe in themselves and reach their potential. The coaching staff remarked how dedicated and hard working this group of boys is.
The NHARA State Championships will held March 8-10 at Wildcat Mountain Resort for the U12s and Cranmore Mountain Resort for the U14s. Good luck and ski fast, boys!
