“Welcome to our very first music concert of the year!” began Director of Music Kevin Franco. Humann Theatre filled with applause for the first time in over a year, and the students took their seats and were treated to a live, in-person concert.
The program began with separate performances by the Cardigan Winds and the Cardigan Strings. Originally one group, for the first time this year the musicians have been split into two groups for twice the challenges and twice the music. Both playing classical pieces, their performances were outstanding, despite the six short weeks that they had to rehearse!
The concert continued with additional classical pieces as well as more contemporary pieces, including the theme from “The Office” by John Ferguson, “Viva la Vida” by Cold Play, and “Firework” by Katy Perry.
Mr. Franco closed the concert with these words: “Guys, this is hard what we do up here. There’s no soundtrack, not everybody is doing the same thing, you pick your own song. There’s a lot of ownership that’s on you, and you went up and you owned it today and I’m very proud of you. A lot of hard work goes into it.”
