The Cardigan JV Hockey Team was excited as they boarded an early morning bus for the long journey to Rumsey Hall (CT) for the hosts’ annual tournament, the Pavek Cup.

The Cougars would need to be at their absolute best as they were were competing against the varsity teams from Rectory Academy, Upland Country Day, Indian Mountain School, and Rumsey Hall. Unfortunately, Cardigan was also missing several players due to injury, but had called up two players from our talented Thirds Team.

In the first matchup of the weekend, the Cougars faced the hosts Rumsey Hall. Cardigan worked hard to shrug off had their bus legs but started the first period very slow. However, sparked by some great saves from Linden Beal, the Cougars found their game and earned a hard fought 4-1 win over the Blue Dogs. Later that day, Cardigan would face Rectory School in a tight contest. Rectory led most of the game tight one as Rectory led most of the game, but the Cougars rallied in the third period, and took the matchup by a score of 3-2.

After a great team meal and some fun at the hotel on Saturday night, the boys woke early the next morning ready to take on Indian Mountain School. Cardigan's relentless forecheck did not allow Indian Mountain to generate any offense and the Cougars skated to a solid 9-0 victory.

Finally, in the last game of the tournament, Cardigan needed to beat or tie Upland Country Day in order to hoist the Pavek Cup for the third consecutive year. The Cougars played for each other and worked extremely hard in what would be a very tight game. Cardigan made a statement by out shooting and out playing their opponents once again to earn a solid 5-1 win and the tournament.

The boys shared smiles and hugs as they skated around Lufkin Arena with the Pavek Cup held high over their heads. Ben Clary was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament, while Kanata Mori and Harrison Ooten earned All-Tournament Team honors.

Cardigan thanks our friends at Rumsey Hall for hosting such a fun, well-run tournament!
