Jon Hunt Named Head Varsity Lacrosse Coach

Cardigan Mountain School is pleased to announce the appointment of Jon Hunt P’26,’28 as the school’s new Head Varsity Lacrosse Coach.

Coach Hunt is a familiar and respected presence within the Cardigan lacrosse program, having served as the team’s offensive coordinator for several seasons. In that role, he has helped develop student-athletes at every level while contributing to the strong culture, preparation, and competitive spirit of the varsity program.

A former collegiate lacrosse player at Plymouth State University, Coach Hunt brings extensive head coaching experience at both the preparatory school and college levels, including Bridgton Academy (Bridgton, ME), the University of New England (Biddeford, ME), and Colby College (Waterville, ME). He also serves as a sixth-grade teacher at Cardigan, where his ability to connect with boys in the classroom carries naturally onto the athletic field.

“I am incredibly grateful and honored for the opportunity to lead Cougar lacrosse,” said Coach Hunt. “The Cardigan program has a rich tradition, outstanding facilities, and a community that truly values the growth of its student-athletes. I look forward to building on that history and fostering an environment where our boys are challenged to grow as players, teammates, leaders, and young men.”

Interim Director of Athletics Hal Gartner said Coach Hunt’s appointment represents a natural next step for the program.

“Already a valued member of the Cardigan community and a dedicated assistant coach within our program, Jon steps into this leadership role with a deep understanding of our mission, our student-athletes, and what makes Cardigan special,” Gartner said. “His passion for the game, commitment to character development, and ability to build meaningful relationships have already made a lasting impact on our boys.”

Coach Hunt began his new role on July 1, 2026.

Cardigan’s Varsity Lacrosse Team competes against a challenging schedule of preparatory school opponents from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. Many Cardigan players continue their careers with premier secondary school and collegiate programs. Cardigan fields four lacrosse teams, ensuring that every boy has an opportunity to learn the game, develop his skills, contribute to a team, and have fun. The Cougars play their home games on the lighted artificial turf at Campbell Field.
