David Gregory P’18 to Deliver Cardigan's 75th Commencement Address

Cardigan trustee and past parent David Gregory P’18 will deliver the Commencement Address at the School’s 75th Commencement exercises this May.

The Cardigan Class of 2021 is already familiar with Mr. Gregory, who is a political analyst with CNN. This past October, Mr. Gregory led Cardigan students and faculty through an educational discussion covering the (then-upcoming) presidential election, the political landscape in the United States, and recent developments with the U.S. Supreme Court. While that event was hosted virtually, Cardigan is excited to host a “live” commencement ceremony this spring—the School’s first on-campus event in over a year—and Mr. Gregory is eager to return to The Point and deliver his remarks in person.

“I am honored to be a part of Cardigan’s 75th Commencement,” said Mr. Gregory. “Cardigan has become a special place for our family and I am delighted to be returning to campus this spring. After such a difficult year I am looking forward to reconnecting with the students, meeting their families, and speaking with the Cardigan community in person.”

Before joining CNN as a political analyst in 2016, Mr. Gregory worked for NBC News for 20 years, rising to Chief White House Correspondent during the George W. Bush Administration, and serving as the host of NBC’s Meet the Press from 2008-2014. In September 2015, he released his first book, How’s Your Faith? An Unlikely Spiritual Journey. Described by The Washington Post as a “thoughtful, introspective and moving account,” How’s Your Faith explores religious traditions and the author’s own beliefs as he reflects on his childhood in an interfaith family, his professional career, and his interfaith marriage.

“We are absolutely thrilled,” shared Head of School Christopher Day P’12,’13. “As a past parent and current trustee David has a deep connection to Cardigan. He and his wife Beth have become trusted friends of the School and they regularly host Cardigan gatherings at their home in Washington, D.C.  With everything the world has experienced in the last year, I can think of no better person to share his perspective with our graduates right now than David Gregory. We are honored that he has accepted our invitation in this, our 75th Anniversary year.”

Founded in 1945, Cardigan Mountain School is celebrating its 75th Anniversary throughout the 2020-21 academic year. Cardigan’s 75th Commencement will take place in an outdoor, socially-distanced setting on Sunday, May 16, 2021.
