Cardigan’s School Magazine Explores the Classroom

Cardigan’s School Magazine Explores the Classroom

In the fall 2022 issue of the Chronicle, Christopher D. Day P’12,’13 writes in his Letter from the Head of School, “At Cardigan—and in the Cardigan community—our work focuses on developing the mind, body, and spirit of our boys. While many parents and educators out there bemoan teaching and coaching middle school boys and see it as a hair-pulling exercise in frustration, at Cardigan we recognize this developmental stage as the bullseye of our work. It’s work that requires a long view—discarding immediate gratification for perseverance and patience—but it’s also work that is well worth the effort.”

In the magazine’s most recent issue, the feature invites you into the Cardigan classroom to learn alongside our students. The lessons and their objectives are varied, but girding each one are the School's Habits of Learning, targeting the specific skills that challenge and prepare our students for lifelong learning.

The theme of lifelong learning continues in the other articles. We take a look back at the 2022 Charles C. Gates Invention & Innovation Competition in which students work through the invention process and learn perseverance, problem-solving, and presentation skills along the way. We also hear the perspectives of members of Cardigan Boys of Color group and the impact that they have had on our community, and celebrate the launch of our new Strategic Plan for 2032. Lastly, we check in with several Cardigan alumni of all ages and see how they have put to use the Habits of Learning in the real world.

We hope you enjoy this new issue of the Chronicle, and we look forward to sharing the next issue with you soon!
