Cardigan Mountain School is pleased to announce the appointment of Greg Shapiro as the new head coach of its hockey program. After an extensive search process, Shapiro, a dedicated member of the Cardigan community, has been selected to lead the program into the 2025-26 season.
Shapiro has been a vital part of the school for the past four years, serving as both an English teacher and a junior varsity hockey coach. His deep understanding of Cardigan’s mission, combined with his passion for developing young student-athletes, makes him an outstanding fit for this leadership role.
“As a former standout player at Phillips Exeter Academy and a member of a distinguished hockey family with coaching roots at Exeter, Holderness, and Choate, Greg brings invaluable experience to our program,” said Head of School Chris Day P’12,’13. “His commitment to skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship aligns perfectly with the values we uphold at Cardigan. We are excited for the energy and leadership he will bring to the next chapter of Cardigan Hockey.”
In addition to coaching, Shapiro will oversee off-season skill development and team bonding opportunities during the fall and summer. He will also take on a key role in Cardigan’s Secondary School Counseling Office, working closely with student-athletes and their families as they navigate the transition to their next schools. His extensive knowledge of the boarding school landscape, combined with his firsthand experience as a player and coach, will be a valuable asset to the community.
Cardigan looks forward to the future of its varsity hockey program under Shapiro’s leadership and welcomes him into this new position with enthusiasm.
