Cardigan Hockey Alumni Shine in NEPSAC Postseason

Tucker Harris

Former Cougars helped lead their secondary school teams to success across the Elite 8, Large School, and Small School tournaments.

March hockey in New England always brings excitement, and this year Cardigan had plenty to celebrate.

Cardigan alumni were well represented across the NEPSAC postseason, with former Cougars contributing to teams selected for the Elite 8, Large School, and Small School tournaments. Even more impressively, these former Cougars were part of championship runs at every level: Avon Old Farms won the Elite 8, Cushing captured the Large School title, and Winchendon claimed the Small School championship.

It is a wonderful reflection of the strength of Cardigan’s hockey tradition—and of the way our boys continue to grow as players, teammates, and leaders after they graduate from Cardigan.

In the Elite 8, Cardigan alumni competed for some of New England’s top programs. Avon Old Farms (Avon, CT), which went on to win the championship, featured Tucker Harris ’23 and Marshall Paul ’25, with Harris serving as a captain for the Winged Beavers. St. Mark’s School (Southborough, MA) was represented by Thomas Birks ’24 and Anthony Brunetti ’24. At Hotchkiss (Lakeville, CT), Cardigan connections included Head Coach Mike Doyle ’08 as well as Isaac Oberting ’23, Ty Higginbotham ’24, and Constantine Theocharis ’25. Kimball Union Academy (Meriden, NH) featured Jackson Davies ’22 and Reid Gueldenzolph ’22, while Salisbury School (Salisbury, CT) included Devin Kokinos ’25 and Elliot Watson ’25. Cardigan was also represented behind the bench at Dexter Southfield (Brookline, MA), where former Cardigan Head Coach Cam McCusker ’10 is part of the coaching staff.

Cardigan alumni also made their mark in the Large School and Small School tournaments. Cushing Academy (Ashburnham, MA), the Large School champion, was represented by Landon Nickulas ’25. St. Paul’s School (Concord, NH) featured Jaden Ficek ’23 and Max Romano ’23. At Deerfield Academy (Deerfield, MA), Cardigan ties included Assistant Coach Drew Philie ’06, Captain Nate Watson ’23, and Nathan Caples ’24. Holderness School (Holderness, NH) featured Kanata Mori ’25 and former Cardigan Assistant Coach Owen Carpino. Winchendon School (Winchendon, MA), winner of the Small School title, included Assistant Coach Hugo Turcotte ’15. St. George’s School (Middlestown, RI) was represented by Cole Longfield ’24 and Matty Bowolick ’25. Berkshire School (Sheffield, MA) was led by head coach Kevin Czepiel ’04, New Hampton School (New Hampton, NH) featured Rupert Ingram ’23 and George Kavanaugh ’23, and Rivers School (Weston, MA) was led by Head Coach Freddy Meyer ’97.

We are proud of all of these Cougar alumni and grateful to celebrate their success. For our community, this kind of postseason success is about more than banners and trophies. It is a reminder that the habits our boys develop here—teamwork, commitment, toughness, and the joy in competing for one another—continue to serve them long after they leave The Point.
