Cardigan Announces Construction of New Academic Building

Center for Exploration

The Cardigan Mountain School Board of Trustees is excited to announce that it has approved the construction of a state-of-the-art academic building on campus. The building, currently called the Center for Exploration, will be situated between the Chapel and the Stoddard Center, forming a new academic quad that will join all departments and grades.

Designed to be a flexible facility that will support the ongoing transformation of Cardigan’s academic program, the Center for Exploration will house space for visual arts, experiential learning, design and experimentation, and collaboration, including the Charles C. Gates I.D.E.A. Shop.

In line with the School’s strategic goals, the Center for Exploration’s nearly 19,000 square feet will increase academic space at Cardigan, resulting in positive outcomes that flow far beyond the facility itself.

A groundbreaking celebration is planned for Cardigan’s Spring Family Weekend, May 3-4, 2019, with the ambitious goal to complete construction by the School’s 75th anniversary in 2020: a fitting way to celebrate the dawn of a new era!

“The completion of the Center for Exploration will be the capstone of a remarkably successful Campaign for Cardigan 2020. We are so incredibly grateful to all who have supported Cardigan, the boys, and this ambitious project so generously!”

Cardigan has partnered with Architectural Resources Cambridge of Boston, Massachusetts, and Engelberth Construction of Colchester, Vermont, in the design and construction of the Center for Exploration.
