Cardigan Announces Bob Low as Speaker for 80th Commencement

Bob Low

Cardigan Mountain School is delighted to announce that Bob Low will deliver the Commencement Address at the school’s 80th Commencement Ceremony, to be held on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

A member of the Cardigan community for nearly five decades, Mr. Low first arrived on The Point as a Summer Session student in 1978. In the years that followed, he built a remarkable career as a teacher, coach, mentor, and school leader while remaining closely connected to Cardigan throughout. He served on the faculty at Cardigan from 1986 to 1990 as a teacher, coach, and dorm parent, and he went on to serve at Avon Old Farms School, Holderness School, and, since 2006, Groton School, where he is currently the director of athletics.

Mr. Low’s Cardigan story extends far beyond the regular school year. Summer after summer, he has returned to The Point, becoming a fixture on Cardigan’s Summer Session faculty for more than 25 years and coaching Cardigan Mountain Lacrosse Camps for over 40 summers.

“Cardigan is one of the defining places of my life,” Mr. Low said. “I met my wife, Stacey, on The Point, and our children learned punctuality, collaboration, accountability, and the core values here. I am thrilled and honored to be part of this year’s Commencement and to celebrate the Class of 2026.”

Head of School Chris Day P’12,’13 shared his excitement that Mr. Low accepted his invitation to address the Class of 2026.

“I’m thrilled that Bob Low will be our speaker,” said Chris Day. “He knows Cardigan deeply; he cares profoundly about students and schools.  Whether he’s running his team through line drills in lacrosse or reciting a soliloquy from Shakespeare to his English classes, Bob is a consummate educator.  His connection to this place—and to the generations of students who have grown here—is both enduring and extraordinary.”

Mr. Low’s own educational path reflects the deep love of language and teaching. He earned a B.A. in English from Plymouth State University and an M.A. in English from Middlebury College. He is known not only as a gifted coach and administrator but also as a devoted teacher whose classroom presence leaves a lasting impression.

Mr. Low’s journey—from Summer Session student to faculty member, teacher, coach, and friend of the school—embodies the lifelong bonds that define the Cardigan experience. As Cardigan prepares to welcome families to campus for its 80th Commencement, the school is honored to celebrate this milestone with someone whose life and work are so closely woven into its story.
