Congratulations to Devin Cokinos ’25 and Gerardo Gonzalez ’27 for earning Cardigan’s Student-Athlete of the Week Awards. Read what their coaches have to say about them below, and meet all the students who were nominated.
Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week
Devin Cokinos ’25 - Varsity Hockey
Devin had a huge game on Saturday in the team’s first win of the season against Winchendon. His three points (two goals, one assist) led the scoring for the Cougars, but he also consistently created chances through his forechecking and stick work. It’s good to have Devin back in Green and White!
Sub Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week
Gerardo Gonzalez ’27 - Reserve Hockey
Gerardo is new to hockey this year and had little experience with skating prior to the start of the season; however, he has decided to be the goaltender for the team this year. He is wonderfully positive and has a fantastic attitude toward learning the role. In fact, he got up last Thursday morning to be on the ice at 6:15 a.m. to work with Mr. Vega and the varsity goalies. He is already making saves and is getting better at each practice. Gerardo is a brave and enthusiastic young player.
Other Varsity Nominations
Will Tindall ’25 - Varsity Nordic
Will has shown great motivation and a desire to be the best Nordic skier he can be this winter. He has been on time, prepared for all practices, and given his full effort. He has encouraged his teammates and been a positive presence on the team. Keep up the good work, Will!
Sunjoon Lee ’25 - Varsity Wrestling
We nominate Sunjoon for Student Athlete of the Week due to his exceptional dedication and leadership in the wrestling program. As he enters his third year, he is setting a high standard—arriving early to practices and completing his 100s consistently. His commitment to helping new wrestlers learn the techniques is commendable, and his continuous improvement speaks volumes about his character and determination. Sunjoon truly embodies the spirit of Cardigan wrestling and deserves recognition for his hard work and positive influence.
Riis Peterson ’26 - Varsity Alpine Skiing
Riis earned our team’s Carhartt jacket because of his superb effort and attitude in all dryland activities during the first week of practice. He made practice fun for everyone.
Other Sub-Varsity Nominations
Luke Longfield ’27 - JV Hockey
Luke had an excellent first week with the JV Hockey Team as one of two goalies. He is very positive and a great teammate, even though he is one of the younger players on the team. In our first game on Friday, he kept a shutout and made some big saves. We look forward to seeing him continue to develop!
Sam Hunt ’26 - Thirds Hockey
Sam collected his first full game shutout for the Cougars. Congrats, Sam!
Max Timbrell ’25 - JV Basketball
Max has started the season incredibly strong. Although we haven’t had any games, he has already made an impact on our team. He is constantly pushing his teammates positively, cheering everyone on and working hard to improve his own skills. He has finished first in just about every sprint we’ve done this season and continues to demonstrate how hard he’s willing to work for the team.
Bob Zou ’27 - Reserve Basketball
Our team nominates Bob for his great work ethic and deliberate discipline with the fundamentals.
