Athletes of the Week for May 9, 2021

Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to Heesung “Daniel” Jung ’21 and Robbie Burns ’22 for receiving Cardigan’s Student-Athlete of the Week Award. Read what their coaches have to say about them below, and meet all the students who were nominated.

Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week

Heesung “Daniel” Jung ’21 - Varsity Baseball

Daniel has been a true pleasure to work with this season. His hard work, fun-loving attitude, and coachability have been evident in each practice and game. In our final game on Saturday, Daniel jumped in and played center field (a new position for him) without a complaint. He made a couple of nice catches for his team and also contributed two hits to the win. In a season in which we only played games against his Cardigan brothers, Daniel led by example and made the most of it!

Sub-Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week

Robbie Burns ’22 - White Lacrosse

Robbie’s skills progressed further than his teammates’, and he was tenacious in both games this week. He exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and is an emerging leader on his team.

Other Varsity Nominations

John “Connor” Hennessey ’21 - Varsity Lacrosse

Connor was a great teammate and captain throughout the season, helping to set the tone and keep his team focused and having fun. Each week he showed up ready to compete and led by example. On the field, he played hard and fair, competing day in and day out to get better and help others improve as well. He never gave up on a play and worked equally hard in games and practices and expected others to do the same.

Gabe Raphael ’21 - Varsity Tennis

Gabe has shown tremendous interest in learning about the sport of tennis and has always shown up to practice ready to challenge himself. He has taken advantage of his athleticism when competing against more experienced tennis players, runs to every ball, and puts a lot of pressure on his opponents. Gabe is also an incredible teammate, who has brought a lot of positive energy to the team and has contributed to everyone’s successful season. The coaches feel very lucky to have had the chance to get to know him and coach him in the beautiful sport of tennis.

Other Sub-Varsity Nominations

Annabi Diallo ’24 - Gray Tennis

Annabi has worked hard all year, and in our final practices of the year, it really showed. He hit some great cross-court shots in his matches and has become confident in his swing. He was also a pleasure to coach all year.

Dohyun “DK” Kim 23 - White “A” Tennis

DK has made huge improvements this season and worked hard all the way to the last practice.

Abe Shepherd ’23 - White Baseball

Abe had a solid baseball season this spring. I was quite surprised by his athletic abilities around the diamond. He learned batting skills quite rapidly and tried his hardest every day. By the end of the spring, he was able to hit the ball to all the fields and could scooter around the bases like no other. We appreciated his team spirit and his willingness to do the small things so his team could perform well! Thank you for a fun spring!

James Morse ’22 - Gray Baseball

James is known as the “Double Machine;” he hit more ground-rule doubles than the rest of the team combined. In addition to his sweet swing at the plate, he had a terrific attitude this season, helping to set the tone for the team.

Zeze Probstein ’22 - CORE

Zeze has exemplified leadership by example throughout the season and has been the cornerstone holding our team together.

Jordan Pham ’23 - Gray Lacrosse

Jordan has been a standout player all season. He immediately showed great poise under pressure and looked to be a standout attackman. As the season progressed, the green scrimmage team identified a need for a strong goalie. He stepped into this role for the last two games and was lights out. He was a major reason for the green squad’s competitiveness and helped them secure their first victory this past Saturday. Great season, Jordan!
