Athletes of the Week for May 3, 2026

Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to Sosuke Imaizumi ’26 and Louis Cho ’29 for earning Cardigan’s Student-Athlete of the Week Awards. Read what their coaches have to say about them below, and meet all the students who were nominated.

Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week

Sosuke Imaizumi ’26 - Varsity Baseball

In our game against Westminster, Sosuke had three hits, scored two runs, and also threw five solid innings on the mound. He has been our leadoff hitter all season, has scored the most  runs, and has anchored the defense at shortstop.

Sub-Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week

Louis Cho ’29 - Fourths Tennis

Louis has been beyond stellar this season. He has a great attitude––consistently staying positive––has a strong court presence, and has pushed every person he has played to “The Max Gerbut.” He is an awesome teammate and player.

Other Varsity Nominations

Fernando Dosal ’26 - Varsity Tennis

Over the past week, Fernando has demonstrated outstanding skill and continuous improvement on the court. His volleys and overheads have improved dramatically in a short period of time, allowing him to play with increased confidence and effectiveness at the net. This development has elevated his overall game and made him a stronger, more complete competitor. Beyond his technical growth, his effort and commitment have been exceptional since the very first day of the season. He consistently brings focus, intensity, and a positive attitude to every practice and match. But one of his most impressive qualities is his resilience. Fernando continues to compete with determination and composure, even when matches are not going his way. His work ethic, coachability, and dedication to improving his game make him a valuable member of the team and a great example for his teammates.

Henry Price ’27 - Varsity Lacrosse

Henry has worked hard all season in practices and games, battling at the face-off X. He has done a great job getting possession for us when we need it and can be counted on to work till the end, win or lose. Even when things are not going well, he keeps pushing to improve and fighting for the ball. You can tell Henry cares about the game of lacrosse and gets gritty when his team needs him most.

Other Sub-Varsity Nominations

Jasper MacIndoe ’28 - Thirds Tennis

Jasper has been an outstanding teammate and a very technically skilled player. He secured an important win against Dublin, beating his opponent at the tiebreaker. He was able to manage the pressure well and helped his team to secure an important win. Way to go, Jasper!

Junghyup Hong ’28 - Thirds Baseball

JH earns this week’s nomination for his outstanding performance on the mound in our game against Hanover. Serving as the anchor for the team, he showed composure, control, and resilience throughout the contest, facing 28 batters and keeping the opposition in check. He demonstrated strong command by limiting free passes to just two walks while recording three strikeouts. Even when hitters managed to put the ball in play, he stayed locked in and ready, contributing defensively with an impressive nine total plays—four assists and five putouts—showcasing his all-around impact on the game. His effort and focus were critical in giving the team a chance to compete, and his ability to contribute both on the mound and in the field highlights his value as a complete player.

Eyan Balbona ’28 - Reserve Lacrosse

Eyan comes every day ready to work hard and put his best self on the field. He played multiple shifts at Saturday’s home game against Lebanon. His consistency in practices brings consistency in games, which brings our team to another win!

Koho Kim ’26 - JV Baseball

Koho has shown major improvement this season. Through his hard work in practice and attention to detail, he has put forth some solid performances as of late, both on the mound and at the plate. Keep it up, Koho!

Taiyo Nanko ’29 - Reserve Tennis

Taiyo has shown exceptional commitment to the sport of tennis and a willingness and desire to grow as a player each day this season. He is constantly practicing his technique, both on and off the court, and responds positively to feedback from coaches. He has a great attitude and uplifts other team members with his spirit! We look forward to finishing up the season with Taiyo on our team.

Michael Rhee ’28 - JV Tennis

We nominate Michael for his excellent doubles play and for developing a very good flat serve in minutes when it takes the average player a week.

Zack De Pretis ’26 - JV Lacrosse

Zack always puts in extra work outside of practice, leading to significant improvement in ball handling this season already. With his improved skill and dedicated work ethic, he can be trusted to put the ball in the back of the net in tense moments.
