Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week
Jay Lee ’19 – Varsity Tennis
The Varsity Tennis Team would like to nominate Jay Lee this week. Jay played an amazing game last Wednesday against Vermont Academy. He was down and came back to win his singles match on the tiebreak 7-3. The coaches are very proud of you and your progress these last two years.
Sub-Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week
Santi Concha Alvarez ’19 – Thirds Lacrosse
Santi is the student-athlete of the week for the Thirds Lacrosse Team. Santi has been elevating his play and is leading by example on our team. His dodges, groundball work, and shooting are starting to peak at the right time of year. During our most recent games against Hartford and Eaglebrook, Santi was the best attackman on the field and helped keep possession of loose balls. Santi tallied several helpers on big goals over the last week.
Other Varsity Nominations
Kyle Murray-Smith ’20 – Varsity Lacrosse
Kyle has worked hard all year to improve his play, his fitness, effort, and knowledge of the game. He has continuously been a strong rider with his hustle and relentless pursuit of the ball. He has scored some key goals for us this year.
Matthew Hong ’19 – Varsity Baseball
Mattie did an excellent job in our win over Woodstock on Saturday. He threw two scoreless innings, and had two hits at the plate. All season, Mattie has been someone we can count on to place wherever the team needs him.
Other Sub-Varsity Nominations
Cillian Clark ’21 – Rock Climbing
Cillian has been working very diligently as a member of the Rock Climbing Team. He has methodically put together a challenging "red" problem in the cave for the last two weeks by dialing in each specific foot placement and body position to complete the arduous climbing. Cillian has sought the help of his teammates who have completed the problem to get their advice, and he has paid close attention to his coaches' recommendations to fine tune his beta. Cillian is close to finishing this problem, and it will be a great way to end the season. Furthermore, Cillian continues to remain positive and does not get frustrated when he falls. For these reasons, Cillian Clark is the Rock Climbing Team's nomination for student-athlete of the week.
Luca Barbosa Fernandez ’21 – Thirds Tennis
Luca represented the team well at our recent match at Tilton School. He played singles for the first time this year and won a hard fought match, which ended in a tie-break. He showed real grit and determination. He deserves to be the sub-varsity student-athlete of the week.
Diego Villarreal Sanchez ’20 – JV Tennis
Along with winning his singles match against Vermont Academy on Wednesday, Diego, with partner Michael Liu, advanced to the championship round of the doubles Lakes Region JV Tennis Tournament on Saturday. Throughout the week, Diego worked diligently to improve his all-around tennis game, especially his groundstrokes. We are pleased to offer Diego’s nomination this week!
Ved Bhat ’20 – Reserve Lacrosse
This week Ved has been putting in an amazing effort. He practices at 100% and during games he is on fire. Ved has proven to be one of the fastest on the team and had some great goals against Leb! We will be looking for a big performance from Ved come Eaglebrook Day.
Junyoung Bak ’19 – JV Baseball
Junyoung has been stellar all year, but this past week his efforts propelled the Cougars to two victories. He threw a complete game against Proctor, going five innings strong and striking out countless batters. Junyoung followed that performance with an outstanding game against Hanover. At the plate, Junyoung has been pounding the baseball. His hard work during practice has paid vast dividends and is a big reason why our team is having such great success. Anytime he is asked by a coach to play a new role, he smiles and does so with great pleasure. His attitude and efforts are greatly appreciate by coaches and teammates alike.
Owen Reilly ’20 – Thirds Baseball
Owen took the mound twice this week and showed dramatic improvement since the beginning of the season. Owen pitched multiple innings against both Hartford and Hanover. Pitching has been the most challenging position on the field for the Thirds Baseball Team, and Owen has stepped in to lead the boys when they struggled.
George Wilkins ’20 – Reserves Tennis
George has been an outstanding contributor to the Reserves Tennis Team this spring. He has an undefeated personal record including stepping up to play a singles match against Eaglebrook’s thirds team and winning a hard fought battle that went to a tiebreaker. In practices throughout the week, George never loses his competitive edge and comes each day ready to put in work. He closes the season as one of our top two players.
Willem Naughton ’20 – JV Lacrosse
Willem improved his ground ball and clearing skills at practice and was able to implement these effectively in game situations last week, helping his team to two victories.
