Athletes of the Week for May 17, 2026

Congratulations to ​Emmett Rand ’26 and Rayson Li ’26 for earning Cardigan’s Student-Athlete of the Week Awards. Read what their coaches have to say about them below, and meet all the students who were nominated.

Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week

​Emmett Rand ’26 - Varsity Lacrosse 

Emmett Rand has worked very hard during his two years on The Point in a Lacrosse program that strives to be the very best in all they do. He has improved every day and continuously works on areas of growth, both in his play and his leadership, as the backbone of our defense. He always looks to make the next play, no matter how the last play went. In his final week of the season, he played two outstanding games against Eaglebrook and Exeter. In the final Eaglebrook game, he was a little banged up from getting hit repeatedly in a few spots, causing him some pain. He was undeterred, and in our final game, Emmett had his best game. He made incredible saves, and at one point, he made multiple wild saves in a row to prevent the momentum swing from going in favor of Eaglebrook. Without his great play in net and strong leadership across the field, the team would not have had the success it had this season. Great week, season, and career, Emmett. Thank you!

Sub-Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week

Rayson Li ’26 - Thirds Baseball

Rayson earns this week’s Student-Athlete of the Week recognition for his outstanding leadership, reliability, and selflessness both on and off the field. As the team’s catcher, he has been a true brick wall behind the plate, consistently giving pitchers confidence with his toughness, focus, and defensive presence. In the last game, he played flawlessly behind the dish, committing no errors and handling every opportunity with composure and consistency. His effort and attention to detail continue to set the standard for the team defensively. Beyond his play on the field, his character stands out just as much. After the game, he stayed behind to help clean up a mess left by another team and also assisted with unloading the bus without being asked. He constantly chases umpires down to shake their hands and will often compliment members of the other team while they are at the plate. His willingness to help others and do the little things reflects the kind of thoughtful teammate and person he is. Rayson’s dedication, humility, and team-first attitude make him incredibly deserving of this recognition.

Other Varsity Nominations

Everett Lo ’26 - Varsity Tennis

We nominate Everett for Student-Athlete of the Week for his outstanding dedication and leadership throughout the season. He has consistently stepped up whenever the team needed him, competing in both singles and doubles and always giving his best effort on the court. Beyond competition, he is the definition of a team player. Whether helping clean up after matches, organizing equipment, or supporting teammates, he is always willing to do whatever is needed for the team’s success. He has also been a great role model for younger players, leading by example through his sportsmanship, work ethic, and positive attitude both on and off the court. The team is proud to recognize Everett for his commitment, versatility, and leadership this season.

Quinn Carbone ’26 - Varsity Baseball

Quinn was a steady presence in the lineup and on the field all season. At the end of the season, he had a great game against Eaglebrook, knocking in a run and scoring another, as well as making a great inning-ending catch in the field. 

Other Sub-Varsity Nominations

Michael Rhee ’28 - JV Tennis 

We nominate Michael this week for his overall improvement throughout the season. He understands doubles strategy, and he played very well with his partner.

Raphael Kim ’26 - Fourths Tennis

Raphael put in great effort the last few weeks of the season. He’s been a positive team player, and enjoyed a solid win of 8-5 down at Eaglebrook School.

Austin Zheng ’27 - Thirds Tennis

Austin has made major improvements throughout the season and has shown how much he cares about the team. He has been an outstanding doubles partner and an essential member of the team. Thank you for an amazing season, Austin!

Ozzie Wright ’26 - JV Baseball

Ozzie had a fantastic performance on the mound against Eaglebrook on Saturday, helping the Cougars secure a victory. In five innings pitched, he only allowed one hit and one run, struck out nine batters, and did not walk anyone. It was awesome to see––after some inconsistency earlier in the year––to put that performance together in the biggest game of the season.

Daniel Thomas ’28 - Reserve Tennis 

Daniel has been nominated for his outstanding improvement and sportsmanship throughout the season and particular improvement in the last week. He showed up to our practices with a strong desire to improve and displayed good sportsmanship during each match and practice activity. He took the game seriously and encouraged his peers to do the same through his example. He is a highly coachable individual and shows a willingness and desire to take feedback from coaches and implement it! 

Robin Lee ’26 - JV Lacrosse 

Austin Ma ’28 - Thirds Lacrosse 

Austin has worked extremely hard this season and has been a great teammate. He has dedicated himself to improving at faceoffs, putting in countless hours outside of practice to grow stronger and sharpen his skills. He is constantly looking for ways to improve and pushes himself to get better every day. His work ethic, determination, and positive attitude have made him a strong member of our team!
