Congratulations to Matty Bowolick ’25 and Ryan Sands ’25 for earning Cardigan’s Student-Athlete of the Week Awards. Read what their coaches have to say about them below, and meet all the students who were nominated.
Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week
Matty Bowolick ’25 - Varsity Hockey
Last week, Matty had goals in both of our games––a win over New Hampton and a loss to Cushing. He has steadily produced at a point-per-game pace this season and has done so through his unselfish play and his ability to create offense with his skating and vision. He has been a terrific leader and teammate all season long.
Sub-Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week
Ryan Sands ’25 - JV Hockey
Ryan had an excellent performance in the Rumsey Tournament, leading the team in goals and playing great defense. He was also named to the All-Tournament team by the coaches.
Other Varsity Nominations
Will Tindall ’25 - Varsity Nordic Skiing
Will had an excellent week of skiing. On Wednesday, he did well in the Lakes Region Championship at Proctor Academy, which used both skate and classic techniques over a 5-kilometer course. Additionally, he was named to the New Hampshire U16 Team, which will represent the state in the Eastern Championships from March 7 to 9. Way to go, Will!
Lyric Raysor ’25 - Varsity Basketball
Lyric closed out the season on a high note, leading the team to a victory against Belmont Hill. He was also named the MVP for the Jr. Boarding Schools Tournament. He was a leader at both ends of the court on offense and defense, until he sustained a serious concussion in the team’s final game against Fessenden School. Fortunately, Lyric is okay and on the road to recovery.
Other Sub-Varsity Nominations
Lorenzo Miranda ’25 - Reserve Hockey
Lorenzo began the season without any idea how to play the game of hockey or how to skate. While this is not unique to this team, what is special is how much he improved during the last three weeks of the season. It seemed as if a sudden light switch was turned on; he began skating faster and more confidently, to the point where we moved him up several lines due to his effort and attitude. With these changes, it also became evident that he had discovered how to be in the right place in the flow of play. This was no accident; he would see open ice and get there. He would anticipate a pass and be in the right spot to receive it. As a result, he finished the season scoring two goals and earning two assists in our last two games. He has been a pleasure to coach and a very good teammate and linemate within the squad. A great finish to a fine season!
Kai Uemura ’25 - Reserve Basketball
Kai has demonstrated strong leadership on and off the court this week. He has a dominating presence on the floor as a defender, rebounder, and post player offensively. His heart and hustle are noticed and appreciated by everyone on the team. We are so grateful to have him as a captain of our team.
Will Gardner ’25 - Thirds Hockey
Will Gardner has demonstrated exceptional leadership and maturity throughout the season. As a dedicated teammate, he has given his best on and off the ice, consistently showing a passion for the game. He scored many crucial goals and approached every practice with the same intensity, never taking any session for granted. His effort and commitment were evident in every moment, and his positive attitude helped make the year truly enjoyable. Thanks for a fantastic season, Will – your contributions were invaluable!
Kevin Yang ’26 - Thirds Basketball
Kevin started in our last contest and contributed significantly to the team’s success, especially on the defensive end.
Logan Mann ’25 - Recreational Skiing
Logan has been a dedicated member of the team for two years, bringing enthusiasm and energy to every practice. He embraces every day on the slopes with a positive attitude, making skiing fun for himself and his teammates. His experience shows in his confidence and in his willingness to help others, always encouraging those around him. Logan’s love for the sport and commitment to the team make him a fantastic choice for this recognition.
Will Frame ’26 - JV Basketball
Will finished the season strongly with solid performances during the final games. He has been an important defensive player for us all season, as his energy and athleticism were crucial in pressing successfully against good teams. In practice, he consistently worked hard, setting an example of how to push oneself. Will was one of the best on the team at being able to take the coaches’ critiques and use them to better his game.
