Congratulations to Jack Manley ’26 and Henry Timbrell ’25 for earning Cardigan’s Student-Athlete of the Week Awards. Read what their coaches have to say about them below, and meet all the students who were nominated.
Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week
Jack Manley ’26 - Varsity Hockey
Jack had two big games last week for the varsity team, notching four points in wins against Atlantic Coast and Kimball Union. He has improved steadily throughout the season, and has developed into a consistent contributor on the scoresheet. His work ethic, attitude, and skill set allow him to quietly set the tone for the team.
Sub-Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week
Henry Timbrell ’25 - JV Basketball
Henry has started to step up as captain over the last few weeks. At a recent film practice, he was vocal in pointing out the team’s flaws while building up teammates for what they’d done well. On more than one occasion this season he has been able to finish games out from the free throw line, and he did just that this past weekend against Holderness. When playing at his best, Henry has the potential to lead the team to another level.

Other Varsity Nominations
William Tong ’25 - Varsity Nordic Skiing
William had a great week of skiing. His skills continue to improve due to his consistent effort and determination. He had a great race on Wednesday at the St. Paul’s School sprints held at Holderness School. He completed the challenging 1.1km sprint course three different times and won his final round heat. Way to go, William!
Josh Stone ’26 - Varsity Basketball
Josh played well in our last two games. He was the leading scorer in our game against Holderness and put in an impressive effort against Groton, both on defense and in rebounds. In both cases, the Cougars won, thanks in part to Josh’s effort.
The JV Cougars came out flying in the first game of their home tournament, taking the win 2-0. See more photos
Other Sub-Varsity Nominations
Colton MacDonald ’26 - JV Hockey
Colton is a dedicated and hardworking player who makes a significant impact through his effort and smart decision-making on the ice. He is an unselfish teammate, excels as a penalty killer, and consistently puts the team first.
Brady Drury ’25 - Thirds Basketball
Brady’s attitude and hustle are unmatched in practices, and he was our lead scorer with 21 points in our game against Plainfield. He played most of the game as we were down five players and had only two subs. He pushed the ball and drove for layups up until the last seconds of the game with sweat pouring down his face. Way to go, Brady!
Eugenio Sanchez ’26 - Reserve Hockey
Eugenio, like several of his teammates, began the season with no hockey or skating experience. But from the earliest days of the season, he was committed to improving his abilities and understanding the game. He is now one of our stronger players. He uses each opportunity on the ice, whether in practice or during free skate, to build his skills as a skater. He is one of the most improved members of the team and his wonderful attitude and significant efforts stand out each day.
