Athletes of the Week for April 19, 2026

Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to Leighton Loomis ’27 and Torin Shirangi ’28 for earning Cardigan’s Student-Athlete of the Week Awards. Read what their coaches have to say about them below, and meet all the students who were nominated.

Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week

Leighton Loomis ’27 - Varsity Lacrosse

Leighton has been working hard all season in practices and games. He is a true team player and workhorse, has a positive attitude, and helps in every way he can. This hard work and dedication paid off when he exploded for three goals against Fessenden, helping the Cougars secure the win. Way to go, Leighton!

Sub-Varsity Student-Athlete

Torin Shirangi ’28 - Thirds Lacrosse

Torin has been a strong presence at attack for our team and has played an important role in our early successes this season. He was a key contributor to several big goals in our first game and continues to make an impact whenever he is on the field. He works hard every day in practice and carries that same effort into games. He consistently comes prepared, competes with a positive attitude, and sets a great example!

Other Varsity Nominations

Elias Morris ’28 - Varsity Tennis

Despite being one of the youngest players on the team, Elias has demonstrated remarkable maturity on the court, along with incredible competitiveness and outstanding sportsmanship. He fights for every ball and looks for opportunities to push his opponents out of position whenever possible. He is willing to face anyone, anywhere––which is especially impressive to see in a player his age. His charisma and mobility have earned him spots in both singles and doubles matches, and his energy is contagious among his teammates. Elias has shown great potential and continues to improve every day. While the road to success can be long and challenging, Mr. Ramos, his teammates, and I will be there to support him every step of the way.

Miles Moschetti ’26 - Varsity Baseball

Miles had a great week! He made several good defensive plays in both games and had two hits, two RBIs, and the game-winning run against Eaglebrook. He is an excellent teammate, has a high baseball IQ, and is among the team leaders in quality at-bats.

Other Sub-Varsity Nominations

Eric Wang ’27 - Thirds Baseball

Eric has demonstrated outstanding effort and growth, earning recognition as our Student-Athlete of the Week. In a recent game against Eaglebrook, he delivered a key RBI with a well-hit double to the outfield, showcasing both his composure and ability to perform in important moments. He has been a constant threat on the bases, consistently stealing bases and putting pressure on opposing defenses. His speed and instincts have made a noticeable impact on the team’s offensive momentum.

Klotey Clottey ’27 - Reserves Tennis

Klotey was chosen as our Student-Athlete of the Week due to his strong participation and engagement during our practices. He shows up every day ready to work, grow, and learn as much as possible, and it is truly impressive! His contagious enthusiasm for the sport inspires his teammates to adopt the same attitude. As his coach, he has inspired me to improve my game and understand and appreciate the value of consistent practice and performance by just showing up every day. He is a true inspiration!

Kai Baik ’26 - JV Lacrosse

This past week, injuries and travel forced certain players to step up, and Kai has done so with grit. In our rematch against Proctor, he stepped into a starting role on close defense. He quickly made an impact, using his speed in transitions and setting the tone with physical play. Against the KUA Wildcats on Saturday, he played the first half on close defense, holding off multiple players with a significant size advantage. He played the second half as an LSM; this was his first time on the wing, and he came up with crucial ground balls on multiple occasions. Looking ahead, Kai will be at the forefront of our team’s defense.

Santiago Artigas Bay ’26 - JV Tennis

Santiago remains undefeated in singles matches this season with a perfect 6-0 record. He has found a way to win against six different opponents with six different playstyles.

Finn Lewis ’27 - Thirds Tennis

Finn had an outstanding match against an Eaglebrook student this week. He played hard and won his match 8-6. His leadership and fair play were outstanding! Thank you for being an awesome teammate, Finn!

Ryan Pfeiffer ’28 - Reserve Lacrosse

Ryan is a talented and dedicated player. Stepping into the role of defenseman, his tenacity and effort have made him a dominant player in this week’s practices and game. He is especially talented in his ability to gain possession of ground balls and create turnovers. He has installed himself as a leader and critical player on our team.

Zac Petrini ’26 - Fourths Tennis

Zac played an incredible 8-6 game against Eaglebrook’s second seed player this Saturday with long rallies and excellent sportsmanship. It was an awesome game to watch!

Cedric Donovan ’29 - JV Baseball

Cedric has been awesome to have on the team this spring. He is the youngest player on the team but shows up every day ready to work hard and has a great attitude. Against Eaglebrook, he contributed with a nice base hit and a couple of nice defensive plays at second base. We look forward to seeing how he continues to develop over the rest of the season!
