Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to Mattie Grabmann ’19 and Masamune Enomoto ’19 for receiving Cardigan’s Athlete of the Week Award. Read what their coaches have to say about them below, and meet all the students who were nominated.

Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week

Mattie Grabmann ’19 – Varsity Baseball

Grabmann was a force at the plate and on the mound in our two wins this week. He’s logged five hits in six at-bats, knocked in four runs, and scored three runs. He’s also played excellent defense and earned a win on the mound against Belmont Hill today. Mattie is hardworking, coachable, and a great teammate.

Sub-Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week

Masamune Enomoto ’19 – JV Lacrosse

Masa was recently elected a tri-captain, recognizing his leadership and maturity. He played excellent, two-way lacrosse in games at St. Paul's and Proctor Academy. In the Proctor game he scored four goals.

Other Varsity Nominations

Gianluca Audia ’19 – Varsity Tennis

The Varsity Tennis Team would like to nominate Gianluca Audia this week. Gianluca has done an excellent job since the beginning of the season. He works hard every practice and helps to set the tone for the rest of the team. Gianluca played a very solid single match against Brewster Academy last Saturday, winning in two straight sets. Later on, Jay Lee and Gianluca played a great doubles match defeating their opponents 8-3. This is his third year on the team and the coaches have seen a huge improvement since the first day he practiced with us. Gianluca is a key player for us and we are sure he is going to continue pushing himself every day.

Quinn Cepiel ’19 – Varsity Lacrosse

Tri-Captain Quinn Cepiel has been leading the team on and off the field. He has consistently been the top goal scorer each game. In the first three games last week Quinn had 15 goals and several assists. Quinn led the team with six goals each game in back–to-back games vs. Avon Old Farms and Deerfield Academy. Quinn has also helped make others around him better players. He was recognized by his teammates for his positive attitude, hard work, and willingness to give his all and help make our team the best we can be.

Other Sub-Varsity Nominations

Junyoung Bak ’19 –JV Baseball

Junyoung has improved in several areas this spring in JV Baseball. His bat is electric and he is working really hard on his swing mechanics. As we work on defense he is looking like a solid first baseman. He is also broadening his skill set by working at third base and outfield. This shows a commitment to improvement and a love of the game. He is a quiet leader doing all the right things in practice.

Lorenzo Lopez ’19 –Reserve Lacrosse

Lorenzo brings a great attitude to practice every day. He is enthusiastic, helpful, and dedicated. Lorenzo is always asking questions about the game and repeatedly asks to try a play/move again until he gets it right. In the few days that we have had our team, he has risen to a role of a leader on the field. With his tenacity, we are confident that Lorenzo will continue to improve throughout the season!

Adam Becht ’19 –JV Tennis

Adam was instrumental in key matches against KUA and New Hampton School, respectively, this past week with two decisive individual victories. Adam, one of the Senior Captains, provided leadership, enthusiasm, and encouragement to all his teammates throughout the week. Adam is a source of consistency on and off the tennis court, always urging his teammates to provide their superior effort to every point. We are proud of his accomplishments thus far, and look forward to seeing him continue to grow throughout the tennis season.

Cillian Clark ’21 – Rock Climbing

Cillian has been a wonderful member of the Rock Climbing Team since the beginning of the spring season. He has worked hard to improve his climbing, he is very supportive of his teammates, and is always smiling. Cillian has done very well in learning how to belay and spot safely this year, so his teammates always trust having him as a partner. Being safe is the most important aspect of climbing, and Cillian has been a trustworthy member of the squad all year.

Jenson Smock ’21 – Thirds Lacrosse

Jenson has worked hard over the last three weeks to improve his game as a lacrosse player. He's extremely coachable and is willing to put in the effort, even when the coaching staff asks him to accomplish difficult things. The future is bright for this talented young man.

Pearse Cobb ’20 – C.O.R.E.

Pearse did a great job as our daily leader. He managed our wrap-up session efficiently and respectfully. He is showing good leadership and is helpful to his peers. He has been adept as our woodcutter and fire builder. We would like to nominate Pearse for student-athlete of the week.

Alan He ’19 – Reserves Tennis

Alan played great tennis all week, worked really well with his partner in our doubles tournament on Saturday, and always has a smile on his face while working hard. He is kind and considerate to his teammates.

Kevin Wang ’20 –Thirds Baseball

Kevin has shown a terrific attitude and a willingness to try multiple positions. He is extremely coachable and works hard each and every day.
