Athletes of the Week for April 14, 2024

Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to Blumes Tracy ’24 and Edgar Choi ’24 for receiving Cardigan’s Student-Athlete of the Week Awards. Read what their coaches have to say about them below, and meet all the students who were nominated.

Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week

Blumes Tracy ’24 - Varsity Baseball

Blumes has been working very hard during practice. Whether we are on the turf or in the gym, his work ethic has been high level, and he has kept a positive attitude.

Sub-Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week

Edgar Choi ’24 - JV Baseball

Edgar has been working hard all week in practice and always puts 100% into what he does. In our first game, he had a beautiful hit down the third base line that went into left field, scoring our lone run of the game. Edgar is a great teammate and role model.

Other Varsity Nominations

Colin Smith ’24 - Varsity Tennis

Colin has had a tremendous start to the season, playing his best tennis when the team has needed him. This last weekend he was able to defeat his opponent from Tilton in the tie break. Then he moved on to get the win in doubles and secure a win for the Cougars. Finally, Colin has been a role model for his teammates, giving great advice during matches and working his tail off at practices.

Riley Caples ’25 - Varsity Lacrosse

Riley Caples had a great week, working hard in practices and during games. He rallied after a difficult game on Sunday at Avon, bouncing back to control the play at the X against Deerfield and Holderness. He has a great attitude and has really worked hard this week, owning his mistakes and working to correct and not repeat them. Great stuff! Keep up the great work, Riley.

Other Sub-Varsity Nominations

Andres Marcos Sanchez ’25 - Reserve Lacrosse

Andres brought everything onto the field last week. He ran hard, focused on good passing and skills building; his general enjoyment of the game was infectious. Andres has demonstrated a love for lacrosse, starting in the locker room and carrying into every minute of practice. Keep smiling and working hard!

Kai Uemura ’25 - Reserve Tennis

Since the beginning of the year, nobody has exhibited greater enthusiasm or more proactively followed instructions than Kai. Whether he is leading the dynamic stretches at the beginning of practice, helping to pick up balls, or encouraging boys to jog into the end-of-practice huddle, Kai’s presence is known and valued by all members of our team.

Annabi Diallo ’24 - JV Tennis

Annabi has been nominated because he won two matches––playing against older, secondary-school opponents. He also challenged a higher-ranked teammate on our ladder and won that match. He contributes thoughtfully at team meetings and invests full energy into all drills. He is a great teammate and other players seek him out to play doubles.

Finn Lewis ’27 - Thirds Lacrosse

Finn works tirelessly, always has a great attitude, and puts forth his best effort. He is not afraid to play aggressively and is a leader amongst his peers. He has been awesome so far this year!

Chun Cheung ’24 - JV Lacrosse

Chun has been solid in goal for the JV Lacrosse Team, and has made some great saves in our last two games. He is fairly new to the position, but he has been working hard and has made great strides in improving every practice and every game.

Henry Timbrell ’25 - Fourths Tennis

Henry has been nominated for his positive attitude, aggressive net play, and tenacious energy, all of which have landed him the first seed for our first match next week.

Brady Drury ’25 - Thirds Tennis

Brady has had a fantastic start to the thirds tennis season. He comes to practice with a positive attitude, is supportive of his teammates, and works incredibly hard. There is not a ball he can’t chase down! His work ethic and positive attitude resulted in two big wins in his singles matches last week over Tilton and New Hampton. Great work, Brady!

Rayson Li ’26 - Reserve Baseball

Rayson consistently motivates his teammates and assists them in improving their skills. He also puts in a lot of hard work to understand new plays and drills.

Branford Chen ’25 - Thirds Baseball

Branford has the tenacity and the drive that makes everyone else strive to do better and to compete with each other. His positive attitude and willingness to learn is something that both coaches look forward to every day.
