Athletes of the Week for April 12, 2026

Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to Quinn Suarez ’26 and Coleman Martin ’27 for earning Cardigan’s Student-Athlete of the Week Awards. Read what their coaches have to say about them below, and meet all the students who were nominated.

Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week

Quinn Suarez ’26 - Varsity Baseball

Quinn threw a complete game three-hitter on Saturday; he struck out eight and only walked two, allowing one earned run. He also added a double and two RBIs in the win!

Sub-Varsity Student-Athlete of the Week

Coleman Martin ’27 - Thirds Lacrosse

Coleman has stepped up and been a great support for his teammates so far this season! He was a strong defensive player on the field in our first game. Thank you, Coleman!

Other Varsity Nominations

Carlos Xie ’26 - Varsity Tennis

Carlos earned Athlete of the Week honors after delivering an outstanding performance in both singles and doubles competition last week. Having trained and competed with us for the past two years, he has consistently shown dedication, growth, and a strong work ethic—but this week, he truly elevated his game. In singles, he demonstrated focus, resilience, and strategic play, battling through tough points with confidence. In doubles, his teamwork and communication shone, helping secure key victories alongside teammate Lorenzo Torres ’26. Carlos’ commitment and all-around excellence make him a deserving recipient, and we’re proud to see his hard work pay off.

Jinwoo Ham ’26 - Varsity Lacrosse

Jinwoo continues to do great things on and off the field, leading with his words and actions. He has stepped up his play this spring, showing significant improvement in skill and game IQ, and he has become an incredible defender who plays both short-stick D and LSM for our team. This past weekend, he stepped up and made some critical plays when we were struggling at the face-off X against a very talented Holderness Varsity player. His teammates cited his gritty play, great leadership, and willingness to do what is needed for the team. Keep up the great play and leadership, Jinwoo!

Other Sub-Varsity Nominations

Reed Thornton Zarzycki ’29 - Thirds Baseball

Reed has shown tremendous growth this season. His attitude shift has been especially impressive. He consistently brings positivity to practices and games, uplifting his teammates and setting a great example. He has developed a calm, composed approach on the field, never overreacting to mistakes and instead using them as opportunities to improve. His reliability has become a key asset to the team, as coaches and teammates know they can count on him in crucial moments. Whether it’s hustling after tough foul balls or staying locked in during high-pressure plays, Reed demonstrates effort, resilience, and a true team-first mindset.

Patrick Mahoney ’28 - Reserve Tennis

We nominate Patrick because of his outstanding performances during practices. He is consistently punctual and carefully follows the instructions provided by the coaches. During both practices and practice games, he demonstrates respect toward his opponents and teammates alike. Patrick is highly coachable and sets a positive example by encouraging his teammates to follow team expectations and maintain strong sportsmanship.

Harry Xu ’28 - Reserve Lacrosse

“Focus and dedication” has been the mantra this season, and Harry is an excellent example of what that represents. He consistently demonstrates his ability to learn quickly and apply his understanding to the game. Leading by example, he brings a strong work ethic and gives full effort in every practice.

Poon Promphan ’27 - JV Tennis

Poon went undefeated in his singles matches this past week against New Hampton and KUA.

Yuha Nishida ’26 - JV Lacrosse

Yuha sets the bar for intensity and hustle on the team. In our recent game against Proctor, he led our scoring effort with a beautiful fast-break goal. He can play both sides of the ball, executing tight defense, causing turnovers, and pressing the attack in the other direction. His efforts in practice also remain steadfast, and he has become an untitled leader on our team.

Alex Elkus ’26 - JV Baseball

Alex has had a great start to the season on and off the field. In our season opener against Proctor Academy, he pitched five innings, only allowing one earned run and scoring a crucial run in the fourth inning. He has been an excellent leader to his younger teammates, and we are excited to see him continue to develop this season.

Dave Han ’26 - Thirds Tennis

Dave started the season with three wins in his first three matches––two singles and one double. He has also been an outstanding team captain. Keep up the hard work, Dave!

Alejandro Saide ’27 - Fourths Tennis

As one of two team captains, Alejandro’s positive attitude and high effort help lift up his teammates. He also played an incredible game against Holderness’ first-seed JV player, in which, despite his loss overall, he played many games to 40-all time and again.
