Recent Game Recaps

Vermont Academy
Loss 2-6

Cardigan's Reserve Tennis Team made the trip to Vermont Academy to play the Wildcats. While out-sized and outmatched, all the Cougar athletes worked hard during their matches. Andile Muhlauri ‘21 and Hill Jackson ‘19 won their match 8-1 and Colin O'Brien ‘19 and Graydon Schweizer ‘19 pulled out a 8-4 victory. All Cougar doubles pairs played well, showed great sportsmanship, and had fun.

Win 5-3

Cardigan Reserves tennis started their season on a strong note with their first match against Eaglebrook. The Cougars won 5 games to 3 of the eight doubles matches that we played. Our #1 doubles team of Michael Fluty '19 and Colin O'brien '19 started the team off on a formidable note, winning eight straight games for an 8-0 victory. Their opponents had some great serves and forehands but O'brien played amazing at the net and Fluty returned everything that came his way with tenacity and focus. Another highlight of the day was the #3 doubles match with Tom Zhang '19 and Graydon Schweizer '19, coming from behind to take their opponents in the end with a 8-6 victory. Their opponents were quick and skilled but Zhang and Schweizer were a perfect combination with Zhang's powerful forehand and ace serves, and Schweizer's athletic agility; snagging shots his opponents thought for sure they had put away. The Cougars had two more matches that were sweeps: the #6 doubles pair of Hudson Heinemann '22 and Matthew Chow '21 as well as the #4 pair of Alan He '19 and Jacob Abdeen '19. The #2 doubles pair Charlie Knapp '20 and George Wilkins '20 took an early lead and fought hard to hold onto it, eventually winning their match 8-6. Both played very well and were encouraging each other throughout the game. The #5 doubles pair of Alijah Lovelace '19 and Dalton Donovan '19 played very well against a tough Eagle team, which was actually their #1 pair. Lovelace and Donovan fought back from a deficit, keeping it close but in the end lost 6-8. The pair both improved over the course of the match and we look forward to seeing what they will do by the end of the season.
