Recent Game Recaps

Win 12-0

Cardigan Thirds lacrosse was fired up for their final game of the 2019 season against their rivals from Eaglebrook, on Saturday. The Cougars played their best lacrosse of the season and controlled the pace of play from start to finish. The 9th graders led by example, battled for ground balls and set the tone for what would be an incredible day of lacrosse. The day was capped off by a tremendous team effort and a great cause for celebration.

HYLA Lacrosse
Win 8-6

In the penultimate game of the season, Cardigan Thirds lacrosse looked to rebound after an earlier season loss to the Hartford Youth Lacrosse Association (HYLC) team. The Cougars came out strong, controlled the pace of play, and offered a much more complete lacrosse game for the full 40 minutes. Despite giving up a few late goals, the Cougars were able to lock down a hard-fought victory; 8 - 6.

Win 4-3

Cardigan traveled to Eaglebrook School on Saturday afternoon for their first rivalry matchup of the season. The warm weather gave way to sunny fields and extra enthusiasm. Despite scoring the first goal, costly mistakes resulted in the Cougars playing behind most of the game. Santi Concha ‘19 and Jenson Smock ‘21 scored gutsy goals after driving hard to the front of the cage. With two minutes to go in the game, the Cougars found themselves down 3-2. Everardo Lujan ‘20 used his speed after picking up a ground ball and scored on a bounce shot to tie the score at 3-3. In the extra frame, the Eagles were late on a substitution which resulted with the Cougars starting with the ball. Lujan drove hard through the middle of the field, split the defenders, and backhanded the ball in the net in a thrilling overtime victory. Cardigan looks forward to hosting Eaglebrook for its final game of the year, next Saturday.

Plymouth 7/8
Tie 5-5

Cardigan Thirds lacrosse traveled to Plymouth on Wednesday evening for an abbreviated match. Due to circumstances beyond their control, the available time for the game was maximized in a tight contest between two determined clubs. Dylan Gorman ‘20 made 5 saves and anchored the defense. Jenson Smock ‘21 and Santi Concha ‘19 played well on attack. Jeronimo Chico ‘19, Jeronimo Olivar ‘19, and Hung Phan ‘19 maintained the pace of play from the midfield line.

HYLA Lacrosse
Loss 6-9

Cardigan Thirds lacrosse came out slow during the rainy Monday tilt against the neighboring Hartford Youth Lacrosse Association. Dylan Gorman '20 played a solid game in the cage while Jenson Smock '21 had 3 goals for the Cougars. Damian Zhu '21, Alonso Moreno '20, and Tommy Li '20 were a force on the defensive side of the ball.
