Tilton Club
Win 4-3

The Cardigan Reserve Hockey team hosted the Tilton Club Team on Wednesday night, at Turner Arena, for their last game of the year. The Cougars were looking to pick up their first win of season after so many close contests this year.

The Cougars opened the scoring in the first period on a goal by Everardo Lujan Lalieu ‘20 who picked up a loose puck, which had been kept in at the blue line by Luke Litowitz ‘20. Taking a 1-0 lead into the second period, the Cougars kept the pressure on Tilton and took a 2-0 lead on Diego Cortina’s ‘20 first goal of the season. Jeronimo Chico Hegewisch ‘19 made a nice pass to Cortina in the slot, to tally the assist.

Being up 2-0 going into the third period, the Cougars were in unchartered territory having the lead. Tilton was looking to make a dent in the Cougar lead and scored their first goal on the first shot of the third period, to put the Cougars on their heels. The Cougars did not back down and scored their third goal of the game on a feed from Owen Reilly ‘20 to Leopold Dorilas ‘19 mid-way through the third period, to put CMS up 3-1. Lalieu also tallied an assist on the Dorilas goal. Tilton came right back and scored on the next shift, pulling the game back within one. As the thrilling game moved on, neither team knew what would happen. Then Tilton scored with just over 2 minutes to go in the game, tying the game 3-3. The Cougars were on their heels at this point as Tilton had the momentum, but the line of Alex Pilliod ‘19, Chico Hegewisch, and Cortina came through in the clutch, scoring with 1:03 left on the clock. Litowitz cleared the puck from the Cardigan end, putting the puck on Pilliod’s tape. Pilliod used his speed to go wide on the defenseman and beat the goalie far side with a strong backhand shot, putting the game at 4-3. This is how the game would end as the Reserve Team picked up their first win of the season.

Church Salathe ‘22 and Jake Marcum ‘22 both played in net for Cardigan. Each goalie made key saves to preserve the win!!!

Loss 0-4

The Cardigan Reserve Hockey Team hosted Eaglebrook on Saturday, at Turner Arena, and suffered a tough 4-0 loss. Alonso Moreno ‘20 played exceptionally well in goal for the Cougars, making some stellar saves. Bernardo Matute ‘20 and Lagan Salathe ‘20 played solid games on both forward and defense for Cardigan.

Upper Valley Storm
Loss 2-6
Cardigan Reserve Hockey Team returned to action on Wednesday night hosting the UV Storm from Hartford, VT. The Cougars were looking to bounce back from a tough loss over the weekend and get back to their winning ways as they close in on the end of the season.

The Storm jumped out in front early with 2 goals in the 1st period before Mischa Fay '21 tallied one for the Cougars. Fay took the puck in the neutral zone and sped wide around the defenseman, unleashing a great shot that hit the far corner of the net. This goal brought excitement to the Cardigan bench. The game continued to go back and forth in the 2nd period before the Storm scored to take a 3-1.

The Cougars were working hard and excited to go into the 3rd period within striking distance. Cardigan battled hard to start the period and pulled within one goal when Masa Enomoto '19 scored on a nice play deep in the offensive zone. The Cougars had the momentum at that time, but the Storm would not allow them to get any closer. The visiting team turned up the pressure and put in three unanswered goals in to seal the 6-2 victory.
Upper Valley Storm Pee Wee
Loss 2-6

The Cardigan Reserve hockey team returned to action on Saturday night, hosting the Upper Valley Storm. The Cougars came out of the gate slow and gave up four first period goals. It was not until Logan Huetter ‘20 scored on a nice pass from Church Salathe ‘22, in the second, that the Cougars pulled within three of the visiting Storm. Jake Marcum ‘22 kept the Cougars in the game with some key saves, but Cardigan could not hold off the Storm’s attack. Rodrigo Pidal ‘20 picked up another late goal for the Cougars, but it was too late. In the end, the Cougars fell by a score of 6-2.

Win 5-4

The annual Winter Family Weekend Reserve Hockey Green/White game went down as an instant ESPN Classic! In a thrilling back and forth battle there were 4 lead changes, a goal scored with the goalie pulled in the last minute to tie the game, and the game winning goal scored with only 6 seconds left, made this the highlight of the Reserve Hockey season. Team White came out on top by a score of 5-4, in front of a large Family Weekend crowd.

Team White had five different goal scorers in Masa Enomoto ‘19, Julian Popowich ‘20, Emilio Hernandez ‘19, Rodrigo Pidal ‘20, and Alejandro Ramirez ‘22 picking up the first goal of his career and the eventual game winner. For Team Green, Logan Huetter ‘20, Everardo Lujan-Lalieu ‘20, and Matt Hong ‘19 (2) were the goal scorers. Both goalies, Alonso Moreno ‘20 (Team Green) and Jake Marcum ‘22 (Team White) played stellar in net.
