Recent Game Recaps

vs.
Eaglebrook
Win 3-1

Ryan MacInnis ‘19 took the mound for the first time this year in his last competition against rival Eaglebrook School, on Saturday. He pitched three outstanding innings with a great defense behind him. Brian Kim '20 and Zach Miles '21 contributed defensively as MacInnis worked on batters. The Cougars got two early runs in the first inning with big timely hits from Paul Scull '19 and Connor Pollard '20 with a single and double respectively.

Junyoung Bak '19 made his mark on this final game as a Cougar with three great innings of relief. Bak struck out seven batters and was absolutely dominant. Cardigan hung on to win in a great defensive game 3-1 at home, on Eaglebrook Day.

vs.
Dresden A
Loss 10-16

Cardigan was knotted in a tight battle through two innings when the game got away from the Cougars. Hanover exploded with a huge third inning that chased Will Sabat '20 from the game. Sabat had pitched really well early on but some walks and a bases-clearing triple in the third called Hugh Jung '20 into the game. Put in a shaky position with the bases loaded, he struggled to find the plate and walked in four more runs. Jay Hong '21 came into the game and after walking a few more we settled into a groove. Hong finished the game just as Sabat had started, with a strong performance. The bats got going and made up some ground with some help from Hanover walks. A late charge in the 5th was not enough to close the gap and Cardigan lost 16-10. Sabat helped himself with two singles and scored two runs, Logan Huetter '20 and Zach Miles '21 also swung a great bat for the Cougars.

vs.
Dresden A
Win 12-2

Cardigan JV Baseball hosted Hanover Rec. for a home contest on Saturday. Zach Miles '21 pitched extremely well for the Cougars, tearing through the lineup with precision. He had some great defense from Ryan MacInnis '19 and Jay Hong '21 in the middle infield as well as several great plays from Miles himself off the mound. Defense didn't steal the show in this game though. The Cougars put up six runs in the first inning to jump out in front and didn't let up. MacInnis put on a show at the plate and on the bases, leading Cardigan. Connor Pollard '20 hit the ball hard and scored two runs. The Cougars finished the day on top after five innings with a score of 12-2.

vs.
Proctor Academy
Win 13-4

The JV Baseball Team took to the diamond on Wednesday afternoon, facing off against the Proctor Hornets for the second time this season. Will Sabat ‘20 and Connor Pollard ‘20 got the bats going early with a pair of line-drive singles into the outfield. The Cougars jumped out to an early 4–0 lead. In the middle innings, Ryan MacInnis ‘19 made a series of great plays at shortstop, which halted a potential run by the Hornets. Junyoung Bak ‘19 was a superstar in all facets of the game. Bak threw a complete game, pitching all 5 innings and striking out countless batters. On the other side of the plate, Bak connected for a roaring double that one hopped into the fence. The Cougars held on to defeat the Hornets by a score of 13-4.

vs.
Indian River School
Win 5-14

Cardigan JV baseball traveled down the road to take on Indian River Monday in a cold, rainy contest. The Cougars started fast by producing early with their bats in the first, getting out to a four run lead. Jay Hong 21' started the game on the Cougars mound. After a tough first inning that saw several walks, the score was knotted up 4-4. A long second inning for Indian River let the Cougars run through the batting order and establish a big lead. Hong settled in and set down three straight batters. The Cougars showed teamwork and grit by maintaining a great defensive effort in the tough weather. The game finished after the fifth inning by a score of 15-4.
