Since 1945, Cardigan has developed a rich tradition of top pre-prep hockey. Many of our players have gone on to the finest secondary schools and junior programs in the country, and several Cardigan alumni have enjoyed successful college and professional careers.
Cardigan Mountain School takes great pride in providing a structured and supportive environment in which boys develop into responsible young men. We understand that athletics can play a key role in the development of a boy's character, and we remain committed to our student-athletes in the classroom and on the ice. We have four teams, each with a dedicated and experienced coaching staff. There is place for every boy to play in an environment that fosters skill development and understanding of team concepts.
Cardigan student-athletes benefit from:
- A community of students, faculty, and staff who care about, help, and support each other with understanding, kindness, and compassion.
- A learning environment that will challenge you as a learner and at the same time provide the academic support you need to help you achieve success.
- A residential environment that will allow you to grow as an individual and become an integral member of a very special community.
- A high-quality, very competitive, highly successful Junior Prep hockey program.
- A talented and experienced coaching staff that will help you develop and achieve your goals as a hockey player.
Program Director Brady Leisenring ’98
In June 2019, Cardigan appointed alumnus Brady Leisenring '98 as our new Head Coach and Program Director. After graduating from Cardigan, Coach Leisenring played in the U.S. National Team Development Program (USNDP) and served as captain of the U.S. Junior National Team in 2001. At the University of Vermont, he captained the Catamounts for three seasons and earned both All-East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) and ECAC All-Academic Team selections.
Coach Leisenring played professional hockey for nine years in both the American Hockey League (AHL) and teams in Germany, Sweden and Denmark. He most recently served as Director of Hockey Coaching at The St. James, a sports, wellness, and entertainment center in Springfield, Virginia. He has also coached professional hockey with the Atlanta Gladiators of the East Coast Hockey League.
“Cardigan Mountain School completely changed my life. I was extremely fortunate to have had so many incredible classmates, teammates, teachers, coaches, and mentors. After seeing a few old teachers and meeting new Cardigan faculty members, I knew right away that this is where I am supposed to be.”
Cardigan hockey players practice and play in Turner Arena at the Wakely Center, a state-of-the-art hockey venue, located on campus just minutes away from dormitories and classrooms.
