On This Day in 1947—March 2

Small flurries on a Saturday night in 1947 turned into high winds and much more snow on Sunday.

Student Alan Herzig ’48 would call the March 2 blizzard “The Year’s Worst Storm” in the next issue of The Clarion: “All Sunday the wind howled and the snow came down in sheets. Sunday night the wind reached its peak, and although when we woke up Monday morning it was not snowing, the wind had blown six foot drifts in many places along the road. The wind also blew storm windows, shutters, and even shingles off the building and caused many limbs to come off the trees.”
