History’s Mysteries
Alumni, friends, and family are working together to build the Cardigan Archives.
This ambitious project enables participants both near and far to help identify images from our historical collections. The result? A growing resource for all members of the School community, and an opportunity for each of us to tell our own part of the Cardigan story.
Read more about what inspired this project, and then send us your own solutions: use our online form or email us at archives@cardigan.org. And, of course, we hope you will enjoy seeing some familiar names and faces in our growing gallery of solved mysteries.

G06: Coutermarsh Property
Sleuths: Richard Clancy ’67
This undated photo shows the home of Ralph Coutermarsh, head of Cardigan's grounds crew in the 1960s. The site is now the location of the school's community garden.
G07: The Barn, Howe House
Sleuths: Richard Clancy ’67
The hill being viewed by the construction worker is now the site of Funnell and Dewar Houses, with The Barn below. Visible to the left and behind The Barn is Howe House, where long-time Cardigan employee Ruth Howe Talbert H’02 was raised. The historic home (a stop on the Underground Railroad, also known as Kimball Hosue) was dismantled in 2010. Campbell Field was built on the site in 2022.
G4: Clark Pond Camp
Sleuths: Tony Ward ’94
