Cardigan Breaks Ground for Gregory Hall

Gregory Hall Groundbreaking

On Friday of Spring Family Weekend, Cardigan Mountain School hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking for Gregory Hall, a new residence hall set to open in the fall of 2026.

School Leader Tigger Tanglertsumphun ’25 welcomed the crowd of students, faculty, parents, and trustees gathered on the hill behind Clark-Morgan Hall to celebrate this major step forward for the school.

In addition to including student rooms, Gregory Hall will also expand on-campus faculty housing, supporting teachers, advisors, coaches, and their families—a key initiative outlined in The Strategic Plan for Cardigan 2032. By creating more faculty living space, Cardigan reaffirms its commitment to the strong relationships that form the core of its educational model.

Cardigan Board Chair and lead donor David Gregory P’18 and his wife, Beth Wilkinson P’18, were unable to attend due to a prior commitment, but their impact on the project was deeply felt.

Head of School Chris Day P’12,’13 shared: “In all, there were 48 individuals who made this project happen, but David and Beth led the way! Years from now, students and faculty will be saying that they live in Gregory, much like you all say you live in Hayward or Franklin, Hinman, or French. You may not know the people attached to the buildings, but you should know that, like David Gregory, they believed in Cardigan so much that they made a gift that will last a lifetime.”

Director of Spiritual Life Cheryl Borek P’10,’12,’14 followed with a heartfelt blessing for the new dormitory, and then helped the crowd count down to the official groundbreaking moment. Five individuals took part in the ceremonial groundbreaking: Head of School Chris Day P’12,’13,  Board Chair-elect Jory Macomber P’12, Development Committee Chair Karl Hutter ’92, Real Estate Chair Candyce Martin P’14, and School Leader Tigger Tanglertsumphun ’25.

Construction is set to begin in June 2025 and be ready to welcome students and faculty families in the fall of 2026. When complete, Gregory Hall will stand as a lasting symbol of generosity, vision, and Cardigan’s unwavering sense of community.
