Alpine Ski Team Takes GS Championship in Lakes Region Competition 2/18/2010
On Wednesday, February 17, the CMS Alpine Ski team competed in the Varsity Lakes Region Giant Slalom Championships hosted by Vermont Academy and Berwick Academy at Gunstock. Eight Cougars raced, and the top four boys for each school counted for points. The Cardigan boys beat nine other schools, racing against 61 high school boys. Jim Herbert ’11 finished in 3rd place, Garrett Phillips ’11 finished 5th, Speight Drummond ’11 finished in 7th, and Noah Drummond ’13 finished in 16th, producing the winning team score. Sam Durst ’11 recorded two solid runs and earned the 27th spot. Hayden Holland ’12 missed a gate in his first run but had a superb second run that placed him 12th for the run. Miles Hamilton ’10 raced to a 35th-place finish, and Charlie Parry ’10 completed only one of his two runs, missing a gate in the second run. On February 24, the team heads to Backwater at Proctor Academy for the Slalom Championships, where they hope to ice the overall championship.

Cardigan's On-Snow Facilities | Cardigan skiers and boarders take advantage of our fully equipped, on-campus athletic training facility for dry-land training beginning in the fall. At our disposal for skier development is a mountain training facility, also used by highly competitive college programs, that features full-length slalom, giant slalom, and Super G courses. For our snowboarders, our training facility includes quarter and half pipes, rainbow rail, gap jump, 50-foot rails, and butter boxes. |
