Welcome to Cardigan Mountain School’s Summer Session! 2010 marks our 59th summer of providing educational and recreational experiences for boys and girls in grades three through nine.

There are many summer camps out there, but Cardigan’s Summer Session gives families a broad program that meets their needs and interests. In just six weeks, our students improve their academic skills, broaden their experiences, develop friendships, and explore new hobbies. Most important, they come away with a better understanding of themselves.

Summer Session students come to Cardigan from all over the United States and the world. For some, Summer Session provides an opportunity to reinforce understanding in content areas like math or English or to improve organizational and study skills. Others find at Cardigan a chance to enjoy enrichment courses in the arts, sciences, or foreign languages. Still others participate in our Cougar Clinics to improve their skills in a given sport. The majority of our students choose a combination. It is amazing how much they are able to accomplish in a five-period morning.

During afternoons and evenings, the atmosphere is that of a traditional summer camp; we take full advantage of our beautiful lakeside campus…canoeing, swimming, sailing, basketball, volleyball, dance, tennis, street hockey, arts and crafts—virtually every activity under the sun. At night, we welcome performers to campus, engage in all-school “Green and White” competitions, enjoy campfire skits, and bond as a group during dormitory initiatives. By “lights out,” our students are ready for a good night’s rest after a very full day.

One of my favorite aspects of Summer Session is the opportunity to meet new students and welcome “veterans” back to campus. Many students return to Cardigan for multiple summers. They make lifelong friends here and always look forward to the traditions of our program, be it “The Great Race,” “Beach Day,” “The Cereal Box Challenge,” “Battle of the Brains,” “Polar Bear,” or any number of other established traditions. If you find yourself curious about some of these events, I encourage your to call or email me at any time. I am always available to answer questions about Summer Session. I’d also be happy to refer you to a Summer Session family in your area who can tell you firsthand about their son’s or daughter’s experience in our unique program.

There’s a lot more to say about Cardigan’s Summer Session, but the only way to truly understand it is to experience it for yourself. I hope to see you on campus soon. Please click here to fill out the online inquiry form.

Best Wishes,
